Hiya Everyone
Cancellations are sometimes inevitable and they can't always be helped.
Firstly you should make sure before applying for a casting that you are happy with what is being asked, you are available on that day and happy to travel to the location.
I recently had a model apply and I booked her for a "Bridal & Boudoir" event for her to cancel on me the day before as she doesn't model boudoir. Her answer was that she did not know what boudoir was. To me this is highly unprofessional, if you do not understand what a genre is or what a casting entails you can look it up or ask but do not apply to then cancel.
Whether it be a paid job or TF should not matter, the photographer and sometimes a team are giving you their time and for you to cancel can cause huge problems. Apart from the fact it is just rude and unprofessional, this attitude will very quickly get you a bad name in the industry (people talk).
I have a NO excuses policy. If you cancel on me last min or with no good reason I will no way use you again and I will talk. There are enough hardworking, reliable models for a few bad eggs to spoil it for them. If you have a genuine reason that can't be helped then that's a different matter.
Having modeled myself and being a Mum to five often with little or no other help I am not the most sympathetic person to cancellations.
I have never gone out the night before a shoot as it is far too easy to feel hung-over or tired the next day which for some can make it an easy excuse to cancel or turn up for the shoot and not be at your best. Bare this in mind when booking in shoots.
If you have been asked to bring certain items to a shoot this can often be what will make or break the shoot or often it can be for your own safety/comfort. If you haven't got these items let the organizer know in advance so this can be worked around. I have been asked in the past to bring ballerina shoes ( I don't and have never done dance)
If you have no choice but to cancel then try and let the organizer know asap and if you can find a replacement that would be great or give an alternative date if possible. If you are getting paid a good idea which a lot of models do is re- arrange but at a reduced rate to cover any expenses or trouble caused by you cancelling.
Just a few things to think about.
Thanks
Vicky
